About Deckwood Australia
The original company, Gatton Sawmilling Co., was founded in 1950 by Mr. Edgar D. Stubbersfield in partnership with others. Edgar was a builder but had become so dissatisfied with the quality of the timber available for house construction that he started his own sawmill.
The business was founded with a commitment to quality. This policy has been evidenced by our products being formally recognised through numerous awards as being of exceptional quality.
Gatton is a small university town (6,000 people) in South East Queensland about 1 hours’ drive west of the State capital, Brisbane. The town is also on the main transport routes to southern states.
The Gatton Sawmill added to the initial sawmilling activities a planing mill as well as a treatment plant, cartage division, logging operation and private forests.
In January 1997 the business was split into separate trading entities. This allowed Ted Stubbersfield (Edgar’s son) to concentrate on weather exposed timber structures for both domestic and export markets.
Early in 2000 Gatton Sawmilling Co. changed its name to Outdoor Structures Australia Pty. Ltd. And in 2012 the time arrived for Ted to move into semi-retirement.
Ted continues writing and updating his collection of Timber Technical Design Guides, an informataive monthly External Timber Newsletter. Ted provides Expert Witness Advice (BCRC) ›, Continuing Professional Development and is also available for Timber Design Consultancy. A major part of my professional work is researching and writing on specific timber related topics.
The Deckwood Australia company name, as distinct from the Deckwood the product, was launched in 2016 when the Australian production of Deckwood and LifePlus was licensed to Wilson Timbers/Outdoor Structures Australia.
Deckwood Australia has exclusive rights to the use and license of the “Deckwood” Trade Name, LifePlus® Registered Trade Name, and the Registered Design of our unique timber decking profile.
Deckwood Australia are looking for manufacturers to take up our unique decking profile and manufacture it under license. There is opportunity to make the Deckwood profile under license in jarrah and pine in Australia. The rights are also available for the United States. Contact Edgar (Ted) Stubberesfield via firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
